Five in double-digits as USD tops S.D. School of Mines, 81-49

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Five Coyotes scored in double-figures with Raeshel Contreras' career-high of 19 points leading the way as the South Dakota women's basketball team topped the S.D. School of Mines Hardrockers 81-49 in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday night. The win evens USD's record at 5-5.

Contreras was 4-for-8 eight from beyond the 3-point arc and played in just 16 minutes of the game. Polly Harrington was USD's second leading scorer and leading rebounder, coming up a rebound shy of her sixth career double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Nicole Seekamp reached double-digit points for the ninth time this season with 13 points, while Bridget Arens had career-highs of 11 points and seven rebounds. Tia Hemiller added 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Megan Rohrer led the Hardrockers (3-7) in scoring with 11 points, while Devyn Asche and Jessica Shull both added 10 points.

USD held advantages in points in the paint (34-10), bench points (36-19) and points off turnovers (19-4). South Dakota also went to the free throw line often, going 24-of-29 from the charity stripe. School of Mines was 11-of-20 from the free throw line.

The Coyotes shot 46 percent (12-of-26) in the first half and held School of Mines to just six first half baskets (6-of-21) to lead 42-21 halftime. In the game, USD shot 43 percent (25-of-57) in the game, tied its season-low turnover total of 10 and outrebounded the Hardrockers 44-30

South Dakota will host the Northern Iowa Panthers in the DakotaDome on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
