Final Stats

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota scored three second-half goals and junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor notched her third collegiate shutout as the Coyotes beat University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon on the UCCS campus. It was the second road win for the Coyotes (2-1-1) in three days.

Sophomore Danielle Anderson scored less than one minute into the second half and teammates Jenny Teslow and Jamie Karch added goals in the 71st and 78th minutes, respectively. It was the first goal of the season for Teslow, a senior who has 18 collegiate goals. Karch, a freshman, scored in both games during the road trip.

We did what we needed to do to get two wins on the road, said USD head coach Mandy Green. We scored five goals in two games and got the shutout today. Mackenzie was solid and cleaned up everything in the back for us and that's why we won today.

Viktor made eight saves, two shy of her career high. The Mountain Lions took 10 shots in all, but couldn't get anything past Viktor.

We put a lot of emotion and physical energy into Friday's overtime win with Wyoming and we were a little flat in the first half, said Green. We held on and didn't give up anything, then came out at halftime and had a better energy, better focus, better touch and we connected on some passes.

Teagan Eberle made a good pass to Anderson for the first goal. Teslow assisted on the third. South Dakota rotated in 23 players against UCCS, an NCAA Division II playoff team last season that finished with a 13-4-2 record. Sunday's contest was an exhibition game for the Mountain Lions ahead of their season opener at Concordia-St. Paul Friday.

The Coyotes head to Brookings, S.D., Friday (Sept. 6) and Sunday (Sept. 8) for neutral site matches with Northern Illinois and Nevada, respectively.
