VERMILLION, S.D.--Senior Colleen Reeves scored the equalizer in South Dakota's 2-2 tie to North Dakota State at the USD Soccer Complex in Vermillion on Sunday.
South Dakota (8-4-2, 1-0-2 Summit League) opened the scoring in the 11th minute after finding open players amongst North Dakota State's back line. Junior Rebecca Sparkman started the play with a cross to sophomore Corey Strang in front of the goal. Covered by a defender, Strang tapped the ball back to junior Elena Tsakakis who fired a shot out of Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham's reach.
North Dakota State (5-6-2, 1-1-2 Summit League) responded with two goals in a four minute span. Their first came off a corner kick by Amy Yang in the 22nd minute. Yang sent the ball into a packed goal box, where Gaby Arnquist tapped it in. Shortly after, the Bison's leading scorer Lauren Miller dribbled the ball up the field but faked out the Coyote defense by sending the ball to teammate Anisha Kinnarath. Kinnarath was open on the left side and sent her shot past Coyote goalkeeper junior Mackenzie Viktor into the net.
Reeves netted the equalizer in the 41st minute. The play started with senior Brittlyn Dillow in midfield, who sent the ball up the left side to junior Megan Anderson. Anderson crossed the ball to Reeves on the far side who tapped it in for her fourth goal of the season.
After a scoreless second half and two overtimes, the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Viktor recorded six saves while the Coyote back line had two. Bonham recorded five saves for the Bison, although the Coyotes' offense had three shots hit the post in the match.
