VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota State scored three goals in an 11-minute span to give the Jackrabbits a 3-1 edge over South Dakota during Friday afternoon's game at the USD Soccer Complex. The game marked the final home match of the 2014 season for South Dakota (8-6-3, 1-2-2 Summit League) and Coyote seniors were honored after the final whistle.

South Dakota State (8-7-1, 4-2-1 Summit League) scored its first of three goals in the 14th minute. Nicole Hatcher received a cross from Tori Poole, kicked the ball up and deflected it off the bottom of the cross bar into the goal. Then South Dakota State's Alyssa Brazil capitalized off a miscommunication between South Dakota goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor and the Coyote defense that left the net unmarked in the 18th minute. Their final goal came in the 25th minute off a quick give-and-go between Hatcher and Delaney Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe sent the ball over the defense to put it away.

South Dakota (8-6-3, 1-2-2 Summit League) countered with a single goal in the second half to prevent a shutout. Senior Kaiti Porter set up the play in the 70th minute by sending a corner kick into a crowded goal box. Junior Danielle Anderson connected with the ball and put it away for her fourth goal of the season. Four other Coyotes had shots during the game, but they were saved by Jackrabbit goalkeeper Nicole Inskeep.

The rivalry game marks the second in a year-long South Dakota Showdown Series sponsored by the South Dakota Corn Council. South Dakota State's win today tied up the showdown score to 1-1. South Dakota's women's volleyball team defeated the Jackrabbits in Brookings on Oct. 17.

The Coyote soccer team will be on the road for the rest of Summit League play. This Tuesday they will make-up a previously postponed game against Oral Roberts. Kick-off is scheduled for noon in Omaha, Neb.
