Final Stats
PHOENIX, Ariz.—South Dakota scored three goals in the second half to secure a 3-1 win against Grand Canyon University on Friday at GCU Soccer Field in Phoenix.
Grand Canyon goalkeeper, Blakely Fraasch, had four saves in the first half to keep the Coyotes off the board. Then in the 67th minute, the Lopes (0-3-1) broke the scoreless tie when Sirena Seymour took a long shot off a pass from teammate Shannon Costello for a goal.
The Lopes did not hold the lead for long, as Coyote Taylor Nivala answered twice within four minutes. Nivala's first goal came in the 69th minute and was assisted by Lauren Bennett. Nivala took the ball off Bennett's pass from the left side and drove the ball over the goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Nivala stole the ball from a defender and took a shot from the right side to take the lead. She now has four goals for the season.
Colleen Reeves had the final goal of the night in the 85th minute. After Megan Anderson's shot bounced off the keeper's save, Reeves followed with a rebound shot into the net.
The Coyotes will take on Northern Arizona in Flagstaff on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on Fox Sports North, Fox College Sports Pacific and Fox Sports Arizona Plus.
