VERMILLION, S.D.—Six Coyotes scored in double figures as South Dakota ran away from Portland State 103-61 in the DakotaDome on Saturday afternoon.
South Dakota (5-3) extends its home win streak to 18, the seventh-longest active win streak in the nation. Portland State falls to 0-7 on the season.
In her 100th career start for the Coyotes, senior guard
Nicole Seekamp scored 18 points, stole the ball six times, and had four assists. Seekamp's six steals ties her career high from a road game at North Dakota State in 2013.
Senior point guard
Tia Hemiller made five field goals, including two triples in the first three minutes, to score 12 points. Hemiller added four defensive rebounds.
Junior guard
Caitlin Duffy had 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Duffy moved into a tie for second in the nation in three-pointers made with 27. She was 3-for-4 against Portland State.
South Dakota went on a 24-5 run in an eight-minute span in the first quarter to reach a comfortable lead early. The Coyotes were 10-of-14 from the field, led by sophomore center
Kate Liveringhouse's six points.
South Dakota outscored Portland State's bench 51-19. The Coyote bench had 10 points each from Liveringhouse, freshman point guard
Allison Arens, and freshman guard
Jaycee Bradley. Junior
Jasmine Trimboli and freshman forward
Madeline Homoly added six apiece. The trio of freshmen posted new career highs.
All 13 eligible Coyotes made at least one bucket. As a team, South Dakota shot 52.6 percent (41-of-78) from the field and 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from outside the perimeter.
Portland State freshman Kian McNair led the Vikings with a career high 18 points. Starters Pia Jurhar, Cici West, and Corey James each had eight. The Vikings were held to 33.9 percent (21-of-62) from the field.
The Coyotes outrebounded the Vikings 51-31. South Dakota scored 22 second-chance points off of their 16 offensive boards.
South Dakota had 15 team steals and Portland State had 23 turnovers. The Coyotes capitalized on the turnovers with 39 points off of the turnovers.
The Coyotes had 25 assists with six from Arens. Seekamp and Bradley added four apiece.
South Dakota travels to San Jose State to play the Spartans Tuesday at 9 p.m. Central.
