Coyotes roll past Fort Wayne; now 11-0 at home

VERMILLION, S.D.—Nicole Seekamp scored 19 points and tied her career high with 10 assists to lead South Dakota to a 91-80 win against Fort Wayne Friday inside the DakotaDome.

The first-place Coyotes (18-5, 8-2 Summit) have won seven of their last eight and improved to 11-0 at home this season. South Dakota swept the season series against the Mastodons (8-15, 2-8) who have lost five of their last six. USD returns to the court at 2 p.m. Sunday against North Dakota State (9-13, 5-5) in Fargo, N.D.

South Dakota senior forward Lisa Loeffler made all six shots she took in the first half where she had 13 of her season-high 17 points. She started 8 for 8 from the floor before missing her first and only shot with seven minutes to go in the game. Loeffler also contributed six rebounds to the Coyotes' 43-21 edge in that category.

Behind Loeffler's mid-range touch, South Dakota shot 56 percent in the first half (19 of 34) and led 49-28 at the break. The Coyotes' largest lead was 84-57 with 4:30 to play and by then coach Amy Williams had already called off her starters.

Seekamp, the Summit League leader in assists, handed out 10 for the second time this season. She had 11 points and six assists in the first half and hit 7 of 12 shots for the game. Seekamp also moved up 13th on the Coyotes' all-time scoring list. Seekamp has totaled 1,275 points in three seasons.

South Dakota was credited with assists on 26 of 29 made field goals. Raeshel Contreras had five assists to go with nine points and three steals. Kelly Stewart and Bridget Arens also had nine points. Point guard Tia Hemiller had 12 points and four boards in 21 minutes of work.

Fort Wayne senior guard Haley Seibert scored 21 of her game-high 27 points in the second half and 10 of those came in the final minutes. She made 9 of 15 shots including five three-pointers. Seibert is the third-leading scorer in the Summit at 17 points per game.
