GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota's Chelsea Moser tallied 12 kills to lead UND past South Dakota 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 at the UND Classic on Friday inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
South Dakota (3-5) was led by junior
Audrey Reeg and senior
Sydney Dimke with 10 and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore
Brittany Jessen recorded all 27 assists for the Coyotes and freshman libero
Lauren Mattison tallied 13 digs. North Dakota (6-4) forced the Coyotes into 23 attack errors.
"We didn't deserve to win tonight's match," head coach
Leanne Williamson said after the match. "North Dakota pushed us and made some great plays, but we were in control of a lot of errors that were made on our side. We let UND dictate the pace and energy, and that is not what we practice on a daily basis."
UND pulled into a 12-6 lead in set one with the help of six attacking errors on the Coyotes' part. North Dakota went on to take the first set 25-19.
North Dakota jumped out on a 7-2 run in the second set. The Coyotes pulled within two at 11-9, behind a pair of kills by Reeg. North Dakota maintained a lead between three and eight through the rest of the set, winning 25-17.
Reeg's kill put the Coyotes on the board first in the third set as South Dakota led 6-2. UND evened up the score at 10 points as the two teams rallied for control. After a tied score at 15, UND went on a 10-4 run to secure the sweep.
"Tomorrow will give us a chance to make some changes and get back to our style of play," said Williamson.
South Dakota returns to action tomorrow with games against Green Bay at 2:30 p.m. and Drake at 5 p.m.
