Coyotes conclude play in Vegas

LAS VEGAS—South Dakota wrapped up play at the Sportco Kick Off Classic by dropping an 11-7 decision to Lamar Sunday night and a 7-3 decision to host UNLV Monday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium. The Coyotes (0-5) next compete at a tournament hosted by San Diego State Friday thru Sunday.
 
South Dakota led Lamar 6-3 after three innings, but couldn't hold the lead. The Cardinals (3-2) drew 14 walks in the game including two with the bases loaded in the fifth that tied the game at 6-6. Maddy Myers' bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth gave Lamar an 11-6 lead. Myers was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
 
Coyote center fielder Christy Warnock scored twice in the first three innings and had a two-run double in the bottom of the third that put USD ahead 5-3. Warnock was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Yvon Minogue was 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the Coyotes.
 
UNLV (4-2) scored four runs in the third inning to jump out to a 6-1 lead against South Dakota. Alyssass Cordova had an RBI double in the frame as part of a 2-for-4 performance for the Rebel's shortstop. Janine Petmecky was 3-for-3 for UNLV with an RBI and two runs scored.
 
Rebel pitcher Morgan Ettinger (2-0) went the distance in the circle to pick up her second win of the season. Ettinger gave up solo home runs to Minogue in the third inning and to Shelby Keil as part of the Coyotes' two-run seventh inning. She allowed six hits and had four strikeouts.
 
Minogue homered for the third time in five games in Vegas and for the 20th time in her collegiate career. She was 8-for-18 at the tournament (.444) with seven RBIs and four runs scored. Senior left fielder Katie Cochran, a Las Vegas native, led the Coyotes with a 7-for-14 performance that included a home run and a double. USD hit seven homers in five games.
