Yotes lose two on day two

UCF Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla.—South Dakota softball dropped two games at a tournament hosted by University of Central Florida Saturday, losing 6-4 to North Florida and 8-0 in five innings to 25th-ranked UCF. The Coyotes (2-17) wrap up the weekend against La Salle at 9 a.m. (CST) Sunday.
 
South Dakota first baseman Yvon Minogue had three of the Coyotes' seven hits on the day. She extended her hitting streak to six games and has reached base safely in her last 11. She recorded USD's only hit against UCF pitcher Jamie Ujvari in the nightcap.
 
North Florida (8-12) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to get past South Dakota in game one. Navia Penrod hit a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4 and came around to score the go-ahead run on a base hit by Katie Mandigo. Shelby Duncan followed suit with an RBI double to cap the scoring. Penrod, Mandigo and Duncan each had two hits for the Ospreys.
 
Sydney Hancock had given the Coyotes a 4-2 lead the inning prior with a bases clearing double. Brooke Curtis also had an RBI in the inning and scored the 'Yotes fourth run on Hancock's double.
 
Logan Green (4-6) pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief to get the win for North Florida. Madison Frain (1-6) started for South Dakota and was relieved by Rachel Cue during the Osprey's rally. Frain allowed seven hits and struck out one in 5 2/3 innings.
 
Ujvari (3-0) struck out nine and walked one in the quick win in game two. She's allowed eight hits in 19 2/3 innings this season. She retired the side in four of her five innings of work.
 
UCF (11-8) scored twice in the second, three times in the third and scored the winning run in the fifth on a wild pitch. Center fielder Jasmine Acevedo had two of the Knight's seven hits and scored two runs.
