FARGO, N.D.—South Dakota softball hit three more home runs, including a leadoff homer by
Yvon Minogue, but came out on the short end of a 12-5 loss to IUPUI in an elimination game Thursday at the Summit League Tournament at Ellig Sports Complex. The Coyotes' season ends with a 15-38 record.
Minogue, who hit three home runs in a win against South Dakota State Wednesday, added three more homers in two games Thursday. She finished the tournament 6-for-10 with six home runs and 11 RBIs. Following her home run against IUPUI, she was walked in each of her next three at bats before grounding out in the seventh.
Minogue finishes her four-year career with 271 hits and 63 doubles, both of which are USD and Summit League records. She also hit 31 home runs, third-most in Coyote history and top-10 among Summit leaders. She hit .438 this season (77-for-176), which may be good enough to win her second consecutive Summit League batting title.
Taylor Chitwood was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Jaguars (19-34), who lost to Omaha 6-1 in the game prior to fall into the loser's bracket. IUPUI took a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a two-run homer by Ashley Ousley, and broke it open with five unearned runs in the sixth after an error extended the inning.
South Dakota third baseman
Sydney Hancock's ninth home run of the season tied the game at 2-2 in the third. She added a two-run single in the top of the sixth that closed the gap to 7-5. Hancock was one of seven Coyotes who combined to hit nine home runs in the tournament's three games.
