Minogue ties Summit's all-time hits record

SB: SDSU 6, USD 4

BROOKINGS, S.D.—South Dakota senior first baseman Yvon Minogue tied the Summit League's all-time hits record and broke its doubles record during the Coyotes' 6-4 loss to South Dakota State in the regular season finale Saturday at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium. The two teams will meet again in a first round elimination game of the Summit League Tournament at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Fargo, N.D.

Minogue was 2-for-3 Saturday with a double and two walks. She tied Oakland's Ericka Burns atop the Summit's all-time hits list with 265. Her 63rd double is one more than DePaul's Karen Stewart. Minogue finished the regular season with a .428 average, second-highest in the Summit.

South Dakota State (23-33, 8-10 Summit) took advantage of a USD miscue in scoring four unearned runs in the third inning that broke a scoreless tie. Devan Larsen hit a three-run homer in the inning. The Jacks scored on a bases loaded walk in the fourth to make it 5-0 and added an insurance run in the fifth.

USD third baseman Sydney Hancock was 2-for-4 including a two-run homer in the fifth that got the Coyotes (14-36, 8-9) on the board. Jamie Holscher added an RBI single later in the inning to cut the lead to 5-3. South Dakota left the bases loaded in the third, fourth and fifth innings and stranded 12 runners in all.
