VERMILLION, S.D.—UMKC midfielder Reighan Childers scored the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over South Dakota on Sunday afternoon at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
UMKC (2-5-2) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when forward Kelsey Mothershead ripped a 25-yarder to the upper left corner of the net. Mothershead received a long ball from middle back Abby Small to make the play.
South Dakota (1-8-1) equalized the match in the 46th minute with a play made by sophomore striker
Sammie Villwock. Villwock made the move around her defender to the left post, crossing it back across the goal line. Sophomore midfielder
Cooper Thau crashed the box and tapped it to the back of the net.
The Coyotes took three of their nine shots in the succeeding minutes before Childers finished off the game-winner in the 82nd minute. Childers received a cross into the box and finished it to the right bottom corner of the goal.

South Dakota travels to Kansas State next Sunday, Sept. 25, to finish off nonconference action.
