Panthers blank Coyotes

WATERLOO, Iowa—Three Northern Iowa players scored as the Panthers shut out the Coyotes 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.
 
Northern Iowa improves to 2-3-1 while South Dakota drops to 1-4-1 on the season.
 
The Panthers got on the board early, with forward Marianne Gagne scoring in the sixth minute off a corner kick. Defender Sarah Brandt increased the lead to two off an assist by Brynell Yount in the 20th minute. Striker Jenny Wick's goal six seconds into the second half capped the scoring.
 
Northern Iowa outshot South Dakota 12-10 with each team putting four on-target. UNI goalkeeper Whitney Blunt tallied three saves in the first half while reserve goalkeeper Maddie Lesjak grabbed one more in the second half.
 
The Coyotes continue their six-game road swing at Creighton at 5 p.m. next Friday.
