OMAHA, Neb. — The South Dakota soccer team suffered heartbreak on Sunday afternoon in the season finale, falling 2-1 in overtime at Omaha.

In a game that was evenly played throughout, the Coyotes appeared to grab the momentum with just over eight minutes remaining as
Sammie Villwock scored the first goal of the contest for a 1-0 lead.

Kellee Willer carried the ball down the sideline before angling into the 18-yard box where she fired a shot that was blocked by the Omaha (6-10-1, 3-4-0 Summit) goalkeeper but a hard crashing Villwock knocked in the loose ball for her second goal of the season.

However, the momentum that South Dakota (4-13-0, 2-5-0 Summit) appeared to coral was quickly neutralized as the Mavericks scored the equalizer in the 84
th minute. Emily Romero scored the goal for Omaha which ultimately forced overtime.

In the extra period, Romero again found the back of the net, this time after receiving a cross from Andrea Daves and sending it high into the net in the 99
th minute of action.

The two squads nearly matched in the shot count, with Omaha attempting 16 shots and South Dakota 13. The Coyotes held the edge in shots on goal at 8-6.
Kellee Willer led USD with five shots, placing all on goal. Villwock tallied three shots while
Cooper Thau totaled two shots.

Katelyn Floysand each attempted one shot.

South Dakota played three goalkeepers in the game after starter
Sydney Hardin left the game in the first half with an injury. Hardin had two saves while
Coral Suarez stopped two shots.
Parker Rytz did not face a shot in her 10 minutes of action.

Romero totaled four shots to lead the home squad while goalkeeper Erin Bunker had seven saves.

The loss ends the careers of the South Dakota's six seniors:
Brittney Baker,
Courtney Baker,
Katelyn Floysand,
Sydney Hardin,
Katlin Ptacek,
Ricki Yasgar along with
Sammie Villwock who is foregoing her senior season after graduating in three years.
