Box Score VERMILLION, S.D. — In rainy conditions Friday, the South Dakota soccer team fell 2-1 to Summit League favorite Denver at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.

The Pioneers snagged an early goal off a corner kick. Hannah Bricker took the kick and sent it to the far post, where Hannah Adler headed the ball into the left corner of the net in the 13
th minute.

Twelve minutes later, the Coyotes (2-10-0, 0-2-0 Summit) knotted the game at 1-1 thanks to a free kick. After a Denver foul,
Cooper Thau lined up her shot from 25 yards out that went into the right side of the goal. The goal was the second-career goal for the junior.

Denver (6-7-1, 2-1-0 Summit) took the lead in the 68
th minute when a Coyote defender misplayed a clear that turned into an own goal.

The Coyotes had several chances to tie the game at 2-2 including a 75
th minute shot from Sammi Villwock. The junior beat a defender and lined up a laser from 16 yards out but was saved by the Denver goalkeeper.

The two teams matched shot-for-shot with each squad attempting 15 shots in the contest. The Coyotes totaled six shots on goal with one each from
Makenzie Burmeister,
Taryn LaBree,
Amanda Carpio,
Maddison Sullivan, Thau and Villwock.
Ellie Eskierka attempted two shots, one of which missed by inches as it bounced off the crossbar.

The Pioneers were led by Adler with four shots, two of which were on goal.

Sydney Hardin, making her first start of the season in net for USD, tallied seven saves. Brittany Wilson, the reigning Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year, stopped five shots for Denver. Â

The Coyotes remain at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex Sunday with a noon kickoff against Oral Roberts. The game is Family Day, where all kids 12 and under get in for $1 if accompanied by an adult.
