VERMILLION, S.D.—The team with no preseason all-conference picks has a program-record five on the all-Missouri Valley Football Conference Team announced Monday. South Dakota is represented on the team by senior quarterback
Chris Streveler, senior left guard
Stetson Dagel, sophomore defensive end
Darin Greenfield, junior safety
Andrew Gray and senior long snapper
Brandon Godsey. In addition, senior linebacker
Jim Litrenta and receivers
Brandt Van Roekel, a senior, and
Shamar Jackson, a junior, received honorable mention.
Streveler (Crystal Lake, Illinois), who was named Valley Offensive Player of the Year last week, broke the league's single-season record for total offense during the Coyotes' first round win against Nicholls Saturday. Streveler has passed for a USD record 3,614 yards this season with 27 touchdowns. He has also ran for 669 yards and 10 scores. Streveler is a top candidate for national player of the year. He is the Coyotes' third two-time all-MVFC honoree.
Dagel (Cherokee, Iowa) has been the top lineman for a Coyote offense that ranks second nationally for total yards and fifth for scoring. Dagel has started 26 games and competed in 38 during his four-year career. A team captain, he has headed a unit that ranks 25
th nationally in rushing at 196 yards per game and eighth in passing at 317 yards per game.
Of 30 first-team selections, Greenfield (Sheldon, Iowa) is one of four underclassmen. He leads the Valley and ranks fifth nationally with 18.5 tackles-for-loss, the 10
th-highest total in program history. Greenfield also has the second-most sacks in the Valley with 8.0. He has played in all 12 games this season and compiled 57 tackles, the fifth-highest total on the team.
Gray (New Lenox, Illinois) is the Coyotes' second-leading tackler this season with 77 stops, one off the team lead. He is responsible for several memorable plays this season including his record 97-yard interception return that helped preserve the shutout against Southern Illinois, and recovering a fumble in the end zone Saturday that secured the program's first FCS playoff victory. Gray is one of two USD defenders who has started all 12 games this season. He has 5.5 tackles-for-loss including one sack and five pass breakups.
Godsey (Raymore, Missouri) has been a staple for the Coyotes for four seasons. He has served as USD's long and short snapper for all of the Coyotes' 46 games dating back to 2014. Godsey snapped for All-American Miles Bergner for three years, and has continued his craft for
Brady Schutt and
Ryan Weese this season.
Litrenta (Orland Park, Illinois) is South Dakota's top tackler this season with 78. He has five tackles-for-loss, one sack, one forced fumble and two pass breakups. Litrenta has competed in all 34 games for the Coyotes during the last three seasons. He has compiled 159 tackles, second most amongst active USD players.
Van Roekel (Boyden, Iowa) just became the ninth Coyote in program history to catch 100 passes. He also surpassed 1,500 career yards. This season, Van Roekel has caught 40 passes for 572 yards and seven touchdowns. He caught two touchdowns Saturday against Nicholls including the game-winner with six minutes remaining. His 17 career scores are four shy of the program record.
Jackson (Pahokee, Florida) is South Dakota's leading receiver this season with 48 catches for 690 yards. He set USD single-game records earlier this year with his 11-catch, 229-yard performance in the Coyotes' win against Youngstown State. Jackson has 889 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his first three seasons.
