Anderson nets goal in 4-1 setback

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An early 3-0 deficit was too much to overcome for the South Dakota soccer team in a 4-1 loss to Colorado College Friday night.
 
Colorado College (2-3-0) scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute with Lucia Costanza finding Lauren Milliet who then fired a shot through traffic and into the net. In the 30th minute, Milliet struck again, grabbing a rebound off a blocked shot and knocking it into the net.
 
The Tigers went up 3-0 with Clara Richter finding the back of the goal just two minutes later.
 
South Dakota (2-5-0) broke up the shutout on a quick restart on a free kick. Cooper Thau lined the ball up from 30 yards out and found Zoe Anderson completely open at the top of the 18-yard box. Anderson received the pass, took two dribbles and fired her shot through the goalkeeper's hands and into the center of the net.  
The goal is the first of her Coyote career after scoring 18 goals at Eastern Oregon over two seasons.
 
Colorado College added a fourth goal midway through the second half for the final 4-1 score.
 
South Dakota was outshot 18-7 in the game with the Tigers landing 11 shots on goal. The Coyotes countered with four shots on frame.
 
Kellee Willer led the Coyotes with four shots, landing two on goal while Katelyn Floysand, Julie Teslow and Anderson all added a shot. Coral Suarez started the game in goal for USD stopping two shots. Parker Rytz played the final 45 minutes making five saves.
 
South Dakota remains in Colorado for a 1 p.m. (CT) kickoff at Air Force Sunday. The match will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
