VERMILLION, S.D. – Mariah Haberle tallied the only goal of the game in the 61
st minute as the North Dakota State soccer team topped South Dakota 1-0 Friday afternoon at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.

The Coyotes, 8-7-2 overall and 3-4 in the Summit League, must now defeat North Dakota on Sunday and get help from another Summit League school to qualify for the Summit League Tournament.

North Dakota State, 9-6 overall, is locked into the tournament with its 6-2 league record.

Dani Stuber set up Haberle for the goal with a cross from the front of the penalty box. Haberle received the pass on the left side of the goal and slotted it into the right side of the net for her seventh goal of the season. Â

South Dakota, who tallied 15 shots in the game, fired a barrage of shots to attempt to tie the game but saw the Bison defense make the stop each time. With four minutes remaining in the contest, junior
Taryn LaBree attempted a shot but had it blocked out of bounds.

On the ensuing corner kick, Coyote head coach
Michael Thomas put all 11 players into the attacking half of the field but USD was unable to get a shot on frame.

Just a minute later, freshman
Joana Zanin found herself one-on-one with the Bison goalkeeper but had her shot from the right side of the field stopped.

North Dakota State then controlled the ball in the Coyotes' defensive end of the field as time expired.

Zanin and LaBree led USD with three shots each. Sophomores
Sunny Huettner and
Maddison Sullivan tallied two shots as five other Coyotes had a shot attempt.

Senior
Parker Rytz matched a career high with 11 saves, giving her 85 on the season. The 85 saves are the eighth most in a single season for USD. She has also accumulated 192 saves in her career, just four short of fourth all-time on the career list.

South Dakota hosts North Dakota on Sunday at 1 p.m. A Coyote victory and an Omaha loss to Western Illinois will give USD a berth into the Summit League tournament. The contest with UND is Pink Day, where fans wearing pink will be admitted into the game for $3.
