LAS VEGAS—Ty Cueva's walk-off, three-run home run in the sixth was the exclamation point on an 11-1 CSUN win against South Dakota Friday at Eller Media Stadium to cap the first day of play at UNLV's Marucci Desert Classic.
 
It was the second win of the day for the Matadors (3-4), who topped Nevada 8-6 earlier in the day. The Coyotes (0-8) are still in search of their first win.
 
Taylor Troost (1-2) was brilliant in the circle for CSUN. She pitched all six innings, worked both sides of the plate, and struck out seven while walking one. She allowed just three hits, all singles, and the only run that scored was unearned on a play with two errors.
 
Alyssa Fernandez, who hit leadoff for the Coyotes Friday, was 2-for-2 with a walk off Troost and shortstop Lauren Eamiguel had the other hit for USD. Christy Warnock scored in the fifth inning when her fly ball to left was dropped, and the throw into second bounced away and into right field. Warnock came all the way around to score to make it 8-1 to extend the game.
 
South Dakota returns to play Saturday to face New Mexico and UNLV. Game times are 1:30 p.m. (PST) and 6 p.m. (PST), respectively.
