VERMILLION, S.D.—Alexis Egan, an NJCAA All-American outfielder at Iowa Central, has signed a national letter of intent to compete for South Dakota announced Coyote head coach
Robert Wagner Monday.
Egan, who hails from Sterling, Colorado, where she attended Sterling High School, has used incredible speed to amass 135 stolen bases and a batting average of .488 (162-for-332) in 94 games for the Tritons. She stole a school-record 73 bases last season, which tied for best in the nation and earned her the Golden Spike Award. She also hit .490 as a freshman with 25 RBIs and 59 runs scored. This season, she is batting .484 with 43 runs. Her 62 steals are second-most in collegiate softball at any level.
"It is an exciting day and I want to welcome the newest addition of our 2018 signing class to the University of South Dakota," said Wagner. "Alexis brings a wealth of talent to our program and we are fortunate to have her join our Pack. We are welcoming an exceptional young lady who is the right fit for our program. Not only is she gifted athletically and a tremendous competitor, but she understands the importance of academic excellence and playing roles in the community. We look forward to having her on campus this fall."
Egan, who bats left and throws left, was a two-time all-state honoree at Sterling who set the school's season and career (127) marks for stolen bases while compiling a .444 average. She plans to study biology at USD.
