KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Kelsey Goodwin sparked a rally with a three-run home run and pitcher Olivia Fluehr had nearly as many hits as she surrendered as Kansas City topped South Dakota 9-2 in the first game of a three-game set Friday at Urban Youth Academy. Games two and three will be played consecutively Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

Fluehr (6-11) gave up two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning, but allowed just two hits the rest of the way in netting her third complete game of the season. At the plate, she was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Third baseman Ashlin O'Brien also had three hits and drove in two for the Kangaroos (13-37).

Alyssa Fernandez and Camille Fowler led off the game with back-to-back singles for South Dakota (15-37) and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Dustie Durham and a base hit by Lauren Eamiguel, respectively, to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead.

Goodwin's three-run homer in the third changed the momentum in an instant, and was preceded by a walk and a hit batsman. It was her fourth home run of the season. Kansas City, which pounded out 13 hits, scored in each of their final four at bats.
