CHENEY, Wash. – Junior
Amanda Carpio scored her second goal of the season as the South Dakota women's soccer team tied Eastern Washington 1-1 Friday night in Cheney, Washington. Â Â
Â
Carpio tallied her goal in the 53
rd minute when she smashed a
Kellee Willer rebound into the back of the net. The Coyotes connected several passes, beginning with
Taryn LaBree to
Alexis Mitchell, who found Willer streaking toward the goal. Kelsee Winston, the Eagles goalkeeper, blocked Willer's shot attempt but Carpio recovered the ball and scored for the 1-0 lead.
Â
Eastern Washington (1-1-1) countered in the 76
th minute as Jenny Chavez poked in a goal after a small scramble in front of the net.
Â
The 1-1 score would hold as both teams were unable to put together a second scoring opportunity. Friday's contest was the second straight to go 110 minutes for the Coyotes after knotting Northern Iowa 0-0 last Sunday.
Â
Willer led the South Dakota (0-1-2) charge with four shots as Carpio and LaBree each attempted a shot. Sariah Keister led EWU with four shots including two on frame.
Â
Parker Rytz stopped a season-high 11 shots for the Coyotes as Winston totaled one save for EWU. Rytz had several stellar saves throughout the game, including a one-handed push over the top of the net midway through the second half. The senior now owns 128 saves over her career, just four shy of moving into seventh-place all-time in career saves at South Dakota.
Â
Carpio has now placed four-of-six shots on frame this season, tallying two goals.
Â
South Dakota returns to First Bank and Trust Soccer Complex on Sunday, hosting Chicago State. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
