MINNEAPOLIS – South Dakota women's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision to the University of Minnesota on Friday morning in a match played inside the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers started strong by securing the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 victories and continued that surge into the singles play.
Every singles match went only two sets as South Dakota falls to 1-5 on the season.
Jana Lazarevic fell 6-3, 6-3 to Tina Kreinis at No. 1 singles and
Habiba Aly dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Tiffany Huber at No. 2 singles.
"Minnesota played really solid today and deserved to win," coach
Brett Barnett said. "We didn't look ready to go at the start and that is my fault. I need to do a better job making sure we are ready to play with energy and compete from the first ball.
"We have a little break now that will come at a perfect time so we can heal up and work on a few things in practice."
South Dakota, after a weekend off, will return to the courts on Feb. 22 when they travel to Boise, Idaho, to face Boise State (Feb. 22) and Colorado (Feb. 23).
