Holscher nets third Summit Player of the Week Award

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—South Dakota senior Jamie Holscher has been named the Summit League Softball Player of the Week for the third time in the last six weeks following her performance in a three-game series at Western Illinois this past weekend. It is the fourth time this season a Coyote has earned the recognition.

Holscher had multiple hits and at least one RBI in all three games against the Leathernecks. Most notably, she hit what proved to be a game-winning, two-run homer off three-time all-Summit League pitcher Emily Ira in the 12th inning of the first game of the series, a 4-3 victory on Saturday. She added two more hits and drove in two more runs in the nightcap, a 3-2 Coyote win. On Sunday, Holscher tagged Ira with a solo home run as part of a 2-for-2 effort that included a walk.

Holscher has been the top hitter in the Summit all season, and was even named Summit League Athlete of the Month for February. She leads the conference in hits (42), home runs (9), RBIs (35) and slugging percentage (.736), and her .396 average ranks second.

South Dakota (19-16) takes on Creighton in a 4 p.m. single game in Omaha Wednesday before returning to campus for its first home games of the season. The Coyotes begin a three-game set with Purdue Fort Wayne with a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Nygaard Field.
