South Dakota steady at No. 25 in USA Today Coaches Poll

WBB: Coaches Poll

03.05.2019

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's basketball is ranked in the USA Today Coaches Poll for the fourth-straight week, with the Coyotes ranked as No. 25 in the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

The Coyotes (26-4, 14-2 Summit League) wrapped up the final week of the regular season last week with a pair of home victories over North Dakota State and North Dakota.

Sophomore center Hannah Sjerven scored a career high 24 points in USD's 76-57 win over NDSU on Thursday night. She finished 9-of-13 from the field, leading the Coyotes' inside game where USD outscored the Bison 50-14 in the paint.

In Saturday's senior day victory, it was senior guard Allison Arens pacing the Coyotes with an 18-point performance in the Coyotes' 87-54 win over North Dakota. Arens was a perfect 5-for-5 on drives to the basket and added eight more points from the free-throw line.

South Dakota's resume includes a pair of AP Top 25 wins from its nonconference slate. Junior guard Ciara Duffy leads a balanced offense with six players averaging eight or more points per game. She's averaged 15 points while shooting at a 47.8 percent clip from the floor.

South Dakota takes on North Dakota State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals of The Summit League Tournament. The four-day tournament culminates with the championship game at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
