Coyotes make it two straight in Florida

TEN: USD 6, Hampton 0

ORLANDO, Florida – South Dakota had to sit through a second straight day of rain delays before finally hitting the USTA Tennis Center courts on Tuesday.

The match began with singles first following a nearly three hour delay due to rain and the Coyotes (3-7) quickly won the first three matches in straight sets and went on for a 6-0 victory over Hampton. The doubles contests were not played.

Anastasiia Bondarenko, a senior, got her second straight victory at No. 6 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Nanette Nylund and Emma Tranberg also earned straight set victories in the match.

Luana Stanciu, Natka Kmošková and Jana Lazarevic all rallied from a set down to post three-set wins as South Dakota earned its second straight win.

"I am really proud of how mentally strong this team was today," coach Brett Barnett said. "We dealt with a three hour rain delay and played singles first to make sure we could get the match in. Bottom of the lineup was awesome winning quick.

"Our top three did a great job battling back after dropping the first set. They stayed composed and played better and better as the match went on. I'm excited to compete again tomorrow against Minnesota State.

Wednesday's match against Minnesota State begins at 10:30 a.m. (CST).
