Wobken, Durham go deep Friday in Tempe

SB: ASU Tournament

TEMPE, Ariz.—South Dakota dropped a 6-2 decision to Lehigh and a 9-1 contest with 21st-ranked James Madison on the first day of a tournament hosted by Arizona State Friday at Farrington Stadium.

The Coyotes (14-11) got all three of their runs via the long ball. Lauren Wobken hit a two-run homer off Parker Boyd in the first game while Dustie Durham homered off All-American Odicci Alexander in the second. It was Wobken's fifth home run of the season and the fourth of the year for Durham.

Lehigh (6-2) outhit the Coyotes 14-4 and broke it open with a three-run fifth inning that proved to be final runs of the game. A two-run double by catcher Carley Barjaktarovich was the big play in the fifth.

Boyd (3-1) struck out eight and walked three in her complete-game performance.

The Dukes (9-5) hit three home runs in their win in the night cap. Alexander, who allowed three hits in the circle in her five-inning effort, also laced a solo home run to begin the third inning. It was her third home run of the season and she remained undefeated pitching wise, upping her record to 5-0.

Sara Jubas was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for JMU. Kate Gordon hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning for her team-leading sixth home run of the season.

In addition to homering off an All-American, Durham struck out 2017 National Player of the Year Megan Good in the third. Good finished 0-for-2 with a walk against the Coyotes. Durham struck out two in 3 1/3 innings.

South Dakota returns to the field Saturday for games against 23rd-ranked Michigan (9 a.m. MT) and New Mexico State (4:30 p.m. MT).
