Coyotes drop Summit match at Omaha

TEN: OMA 5, USD 2

OMAHA – Omaha handed South Dakota women's tennis its third-straight setback with a 5-2 triumph in Wednesday's Summit League match at Miracle Hill Golf and Tennis Center.

The Mavericks secured the doubles point to begin the match and proceeded to win the first three singles match to secure the victory.

South Dakota received singles victories from Nanette Nylund and Laura Janícková, but fell to 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the Summit League.

Nylund, junior, earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over Emily Behling at No. 4 singles. Nylund is now 10-7 on the season and 3-1 playing in the No. 4 slot.

Janickova, a freshman, defeated Savanna Crowell 6-4, 7-6 at No. 6 singles. It's her third victory in four matches this season.

"We expected a battle coming in and Omaha competed better than we did," said coach Brett Barnett. "There was a lot on the line in the match and we did a poor job handling the pressure.

"Nanette and Laura did a very good job in their matches. We need to play a lot more relaxed and confident against Denver Friday."

The Coyotes close out the regular season with Friday's 2 p.m. match in Denver.
