VERMILLION, S.D. – On a chilly Friday night, the South Dakota Coyotes took home the 1-0 victory over North Dakota at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex. Fifth year senior
Alexis Mitchell's goal right before half proved to be the game winner on the night.
With the win the Yotes move to 8-3-2 and 3-2 in the loop while the Fighting Hawks fall to 3-8-1 and 1-3 in the loop. USD moves into a tie with Omaha for third place in the standings with nine points apiece.
How it Happened
- Right before the halftime whistle blew, Mitchell recorded her sixth goal of the season when she placed a shot in the back of the net after collecting a ball that ricochet off Hattie Giblin.
- The goal game after a very aggressive attack from the Coyotes the entire first half which included several balls hitting off the cross bar and the side bars.
- In the opening 10 minutes of the game, the Yotes had three shots on goal with two of hitting woodwork and one saved by the goalkeeper.
- UND wasn't able to get a lot of offense generated early in the game recording only two shots in the first half. However, the Fighting Hawks turned up the pressure a tad bit in the second half recording 11 shots with one nearly going in off an errant goal kick before fifth year Emma Harkleroad got a hand on it to stop it.
Game Notes
- South Dakota recorded its league leading ninth shutout on the season while Harkleroad recorded her league leading seventh shutout on the season to move to 7-1-2.
- Mitchell's goal proved to be the game winner on the night. Mitchell now has a league -tying four game winning goals on the season.
- Mitchell now moves into a tie for seventh with 20 career goals.
- South Dakota moves to 6-1 at home on the season
