Barrage of Goals Down ORU

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota Coyotes put four goals in the net on Sunday afternoon against Oral Roberts at the First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex to take home the 4-1 victory and the weekend sweep.

South Dakota (5-6-1) has a four game home winning streak for the first time since the 2015 season. The Yotes recorded 15 shots with eight on goal while the Golden Eagles recorded five shots and two on goal.

"I was pleased with our effort this weekend," head coach Michael Thomas said. "Especially in the second half with our ability to make adjustments and put the game away."

USD struck early once again in the fifth minute off a corner kick, the ball bounced around before senior Alexis Mitchell put a header on net for the game's first goal and Mitchell's third of the season.

ORU fought back in the 25th minute when the Golden Eagles' Christa Van Loon knock one passed the goalkeeper to tie things up at 1 apiece. However, USD went to work right after the ensuing kickoff to take a 2-1 lead less than a minute later. Junior Taylor Cotter placed a beautiful cross from a free kick near the corner where sophomore Taylor Ravelo placed a rocket of a header in goal. The goal was Ravelo's third of the season and the third assist for Cotter.

After 45 minutes of action on Sunday, the Yotes took a 2-1 lead into halftime in which they are 3-1-1 on the season when leading after the intermission.

The Yotes picked up where they left off in the first half scoring in the 60th minute when once again Cotter placed a ball in the box for senior Maddison Sullivan to get a foot on for the goal. Sullivan earned her second goal of the season while Cotter earned her second assist of the game and fourth of the season.

After being on the assisting end of two goals so far in the game, Cotter struck the back of the net from just outside the left side of the box for the game's final score in the 79th minute. Junior Jordan Centineo earned her third assist on the season as well.

After getting six shots off in the first half, the Coyotes were able to record nine compared to ORU's two shots in the second half.

South Dakota finishes its home stand when they host North Dakota State on Thursday and Saturday. Thursday's start time is 6 p.m. while Saturday's start time is 1 p.m.
