South Dakota Draws With Colorado State in Road Opener

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the second straight game, the South Dakota Coyotes have played two periods of overtime. However, this time the game ended in a 0-0 tie between the two squads Thursday night at the CSU Soccer Field. The Coyotes move to 1-0-1 while Colorado State moves to 0-1-1.
 
How It Happened
  • The Coyotes played to a scoreless 90 minutes for the second straight game after scoring the golden goal against Northern State in the season opener.
  • USD would fire off 4 shots in the first 45 minutes of action while the Rams had four shots.
  • In the second half South Dakota had a few more opportunities on goal. In the 75th minute senior Tiannah Moore gave junior Shaylee Gailus a great through pass but it was blocked by a defender. On the rebound Moore's shot curled just outside the right bottom.
  • In the 81st minute off a corner kick, sophomore Taylor Ravelo headed a ball into the box off a deflection where senior Maddison Sullivan place a shot on goal that just missed to the right of the goal.
  • In the overtime periods each team had a few good looks on goal but none made it to the back of the goal.
  • Seconds before the final whistle blew, Gailus placed a shot that just went wide for the game's final shot of the game.
Game Notes
  • South Dakota moves to 1-0-1 in overtime games this season.
  • This is the first time since 2006 where the Yotes went to overtime in their first two games of the season.
  • Both Colorado State and South Dakota went to overtime in both its first two games of the season.
  • Senior Emma Harkleroad made her season debut and recorded five saves and now has a record of 0-0-1.
  • South Dakota recorded 10 shots compared to Colorado State's 17 shots.
UP NEXT
  • The Coyotes stay out west to play Wyoming on Sunday at 2 p.m. before coming back to the Midwest to face Creighton in Omaha on September 2.
