Coyotes sweep Kansas City in pink match

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota junior Elizabeth Juhnke had a match-high 16 kills as the Coyotes swept Kansas City Saturday afternoon inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Scores went 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
 
It is the fifth win in a row for South Dakota, which improved to 18-2 overall and stayed atop the Summit League standings at 7-1.
 
Who Stood Out
The Coyotes were led once again by the nation's scoring leader. Juhnke's 16 kills were accompanied by just three errors for a .351 hitting clip. She also added 13 digs to tally her 13th double-double of the season.
 
Kansas City (6-16, 3-6 Summit) spread the court with three hitters leading the way, but it was outside hitter Odyssey Warren who led the Roos with eight kills. Warren also added 10 digs.
 
Turning Point

South Dakota came out to a fast start, taking an early lead and never letting off the gas from there. Juhnke served the last four points of set one and the Coyotes took the 1-0 lead. Set two saw Kansas City fighting back, coming out of the quick break to take a 4-2 lead. Juhnke served six straight points for the Coyotes to take an 8-5 lead and it was all South Dakota from there. The Coyotes hit .370 as a team in set three to secure the sweep.
 
Notable
  • Madison Harms totaled 11 kills and six blocks while hitting .611, her second-best hitting percentage on the season.
  • Brooklyn Schram dished out 32 assists while adding nine digs for the Yotes.
  • Lolo Weideman had a match-high 16 digs and added four assists.
 
Quotable
"I'm really happy with our team's performance today," said head coach Leanne Williamson. "I really felt like from the start of the match, even really before warmups and pregame, that we were in a really good space. The energy was really good, the communication was good, and they were just having a lot of fun, and honestly that's when we play our best volleyball."

The Coyotes head back out on the road to face Denver at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and Omaha on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.
