Postseason Implications Spotlight USD's Regular Season Finale

The Game
South Dakota closes out the regular season with a big game against North Dakota Sunday afternoon. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. in Grand Forks. A live stream will be available on ESPN+ and Midco Sports Plus with live stats available to follow along as well.
 
The Series
The Coyotes lead the all-time series against the Fighting Hawks 16-13-5. The series dates back to USD's inaugural season in 1999 when the Coyotes won the first meeting 1-0. South Dakota has won five of the last six against North Dakota, outscoring the Hawks 12-0 in those five wins. The one loss came in 2019 in Grand Forks.
 
The Coyotes
USD fell to North Dakota State Friday night after the Bison took over late in the second half. The Coyotes enter the match at 4-8-5 on the year with a 3-3-2 conference record.
 
Joana Zanin added to her point total after picking up an assist on Friday. She elds the team with five goals and 12 points on the season. Ashby Johnston moved into a tie for second on the team with Shaylee Gailus with four goals on the season. Johnston has two assists and 10 points in her junior year.  
 
The Fighting Hawks
North Dakota heads into Sunday's game after dropping a 3-0 game to South Dakota State Friday night. The Fighting Hawks are winless in their last four contests with their last win coming in a 1-0 game against St. Thomas. UND owns a record of 6-8-4 and 2-4-2 in Summit League play.
 
Redshirt senior Hannah Olson holds the team-lead with three goals and seven points this season. Irene Jirasevijinda and Sarah McCracken are the other two Fighting Hawks with multiple goals in 2022. In goal, senior Madi Livingston has played and started 18 games this year. She has made 87 saves and owns a 1.26 goals against average. As a team, North Dakota ranks second in the Summit League with 90 saves this season.
 
One Last Thing
The regular season finale has tournament implications on the line. With a win or draw, South Dakota will earn a spot in the Summit League Tournament next weekend. The seeding will come down to other results around the league. North Dakota gets in with a win.
