South Dakota Falls to North Dakota in Season Finale

The South Dakota women's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Sunday in Grand Forks. The Fighting Hawks scored the lone goal of the day in the 60th minute to take the final game of the regular season. The Coyotes finish the year at 4-9-5 (3-4-2 Summit) while North Dakota moves on to the Summit League Tournament with a 7-8-4 (3-4-2 Summit) record.

Amelia Loeffler netted the game-winning goal for UND early in the 60th minute. North Dakota was awarded a corner kick that was taken by Julia Briggs on the right side of the field. Briggs sent in the ball to the middle that found the leaping head of Loeffler and directed to the back of the net. USD had two quality chances in the final 20 seconds of play but were unable to find the equalizer.

The Coyotes outshot the Fighting Hawks 14-11 with 12 of those shots coming in the second half. Both teams registered five shots on goal. Haylee Phoenix led the team with four shots and three on goal coming off the bench for South Dakota. Hattie Giblin (3) and Taylor Ravelo (2) were the other Coyotes with multiple shot attempts today. Caroline Lewis made four saves in net for South Dakota.

North Dakota advances to the Summit League Tournament next weekend as the No. 6 seed. They will play Omaha in the first round in Brookings.
