Coyotes blank Western in Summit opener

WTEN: USD 7, WIU 0

MACOMB, Illinois – South Dakota women's tennis opened Summit League play with a 7-0 dual win over Western Illinois on Saturday at the WIU Tennis Facility.
 
The Coyotes have won three straight to move to 6-8 overall and won all six singles matches in straight sets after taking the doubles point.
 
Habiba Aly, a fifth-year senior, opened the singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. It's the 11th victory of the season for Aly.
 
Natka Kmošková, a senior, also posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, picking up her fifth victory of the season.
 
Jana Lazarevic, a fifth-year senior, won her third straight match and the 50th of her career with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Lazarevic won for the 10th time this season and becomes just the sixth Coyote in the Division I era to reach 50 singles wins.
 
Bea Havlickova, a freshman, moved her record to 11-9 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
 
Estella Jaeger, a redshirt junior, improved to 8-4 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
 
Anna Marija Bukina, a senior, won her third match in a row, a 7-5, 6-2 contest at No. 5 singles.
 
"Great job and effort by the team today," coach Brett Barnett said. "Western played well and came out sharp. We played outdoors with no practice outside. 
 
"We did a great job adjusting to different conditions. Mentally we played a great match and played smart. Great trip for the team with everyone performing well. Time to get home and prepare for a key league weekend."
 
The No. 1 doubles team of Lazarevic and Aly won for the 12th time this season with a 6-4 win while the No. 3 doubles duo of Kmoskova and Havlickova also earned win No. 12 on the season with a 6-4 triumph.
 
South Dakota will face a challenging two-match Summit slate next with matches scheduled for Friday against Denver and Saturday against Kansas City.
