Coyotes Take On Cyclones in Final Non-Conference Game

The Game
South Dakota wraps up its non-conference schedule with a Sunday afternoon match against Iowa State. The game is set to begin at 1 pm from Cyclone Soccer Complex and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Series
Today's match will be the sixth all-time meeting between these two teams. The Cyclones took the first four matches, but South Dakota picked up its first win over a power five program in team history last year when Iowa State pulled into Vermillion. The Coyotes needed just one goal to win the game, shutting out the Cyclones for the first time in series history.

The Coyotes
South Dakota earned a hard-fought draw in its recent game against Drake. The Bulldogs took the lead after Lexie Wood opened the scoring in the first ten minutes of play. Joana Zanin then scored off a free kick from outside the box to tie the game shortly after halftime. Both teams continued to create chances, but the game remained tied 2-2 at the final whistle.

Shaylee Gailus leads the Coyotes with three goals, one assist, and seven points on the year. She also is tied with Taylor Cotter for team-lead in shots. Cotter claims two goals, two assists, and six points on the season. Zanin, Taylor Ravelo, and Wood all have two goals in 2022 with Zanin taking 10 shots so far. Ashby Johnston is tied with Cotter for team-lead in assists with two.

The Cyclones
ISU claims a 2-3-1 record to begin the season. Their first win of the year came on the road against No. 24 Michigan. The Cyclones scored three goals and kept the Wolverines to two goals. Iowa State defeated in-state rival Iowa in its previous contest. Jada Colbert recorded two goals against the Hawkeyes while goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz set a new career high with 12 saves.

Colbert leads ISU with three goals and six points on the season. Mira Emma, Jasmine Colbert, and Sophie Thomas are the other three Cyclones with a goal this season. Silkowitz has played every minute in net this season. She has recorded 38 saves and a .760 save percentage this year.
