Coyotes Battle Drake at Home

The Game
South Dakota returns home after a trip out west for a Thursday night match against the Drake Bulldogs. This will be the final home non-conference game for South Dakota. The Coyotes have one more non-conference game remaining before Summit League play begins. Tonight's game is set to begin at 6 pm from First Bank & Trust Complex.

The Series
Though USD trails 4-7 in the series, the Coyotes have won the last three meetings against Drake including a 4-1 win in Vermillion last season. Taylor Ravelo opened the scoring just a minute and a half into the contest. It was the sixth-fastest goal from the first whistle in team history. Shaylee Gailus scored twice in last year's game as well in under 24 minutes of play. Drake has not win in Vermillion since the 2015 season. The two teams first met in 2008.

The Coyotes
South Dakota heads into tonight's match looking to find some momentum before conference play begins. USD fell in both of its matches in Utah over the weekend but picked up its first win of the year last time they played at First Bank & Trust Complex.

Senior forward Shaylee Gailus continues to lead the offensive efforts for South Dakota. She sits at three goals on the season and seven points overall. Fifth-year senior Taylor Cotter has two goals and two assists on the 2022 season while Taylor Ravelo owns two goals on the year.

The Bulldogs
Drake begins a five-game road swing tonight in Vermillion. The Bulldogs picked up a positive result in their last contest against South Dakota State. The result snapped a 12-game home winning streak for the Jackrabbits. The defense for Drake stepped up against the reigning Summit League Champions and limited the Jacks to one goal. Senior goalkeeper Vianey Lopez made nine saves in the contest to keep the game close for Drake.

The Bulldogs have struggled offensively, scoring five goals, and allowing 14 in its six matches in 2022. Junior forward Emma Nagel claims the majority of Drake's goals this year with three. Nagel scored twice in the Bulldogs' opener against Kansas City and knocked in her third goal of the season at Kansas. Lopez has started five games in net for Drake. She has amassed 23 saves on the year and owns a .697 save percentage.
