ST. LOUIS—South Dakota senior rush linebacker
Brendan Webb has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday's win at 10
th-ranked Southern Illinois. It is the first such honor for Webb who hails from Buhler, Kansas.
Webb registered 4.0 sacks, most in recorded history in a single game at USD, in South Dakota's 14-7 win in Carbondale, Illinois. It is the second-highest sack total by an FCS player in a game this season. Webb's 8.5 sacks this year lead the Valley and are fifth-most nationally.
If that wasn't enough, Webb came up with the defensive play of the game in the closing seconds. He batted a 4
th-and-goal pass from SIU quarterback Nic Baker into the air and it was intercepted by Coyote interior lineman
Blake Holden to secure the win.
South Dakota improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Coyotes host nationally-ranked North Dakota at noon Saturday inside the DakotaDome in South Dakota's final home game of the regular season.
