LINCOLN, Neb. – No. 62 ranked Colorado handed South Dakota a 4-1 women's tennis dual setback on Saturday inside the Dillon Tennis Center on the University of Nebraska campus.

The Buffaloes, now 7-3, won the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Colorado then captured the match by triumphing in two of the three completed singles matches with one South Dakota retirement.

Brett Barnett. "Congrats to Colorado for pulling this out. We played well and fought hard, just came up short.Â

"We're struggling closing out games in doubles which hurt us again."

Selena Bird, a freshman, moved to 2-2 on the season at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Bea Havlickova, South Dakota's No. 1 singles player, dropped a close 7-5, 7-5 match, to Antonia Balzert.

Grace Chadick and
Paige Alter were each tied at a set apiece when the match was halted.

"Selena did a great job in singles winning quick and getting us on the board," said Barnett. "We had chances and had 4 points out there to win.

"I'm really proud of Bea for how she played and fought against a very good player. We'll learn from this and get ready to start Summit League play next week."

South Dakota (1-6) opens Summit League play on Sunday, March 6 at North Dakota.
