Saturday's result puts USD at No.4 seed

BROOKINGS, S.D.—South Dakota State outfielder Jocelyn Carrillo was 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs in leading the Jackrabbits to a 10-1, six-inning win against South Dakota Saturday at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium. It served as the final regular season contest for both teams.

The result means South Dakota (22-26, 11-9 Summit) is the No. 4 seed at next week's Summit League Tournament in Brookings. The Coyotes will face No. 5 North Dakota Wednesday at 2 p.m. in what will be the first game of the tournament. The winner advances to face the top-seeded Jackrabbits at 11 a.m. Thursday. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament.

Neither USD nor SDSU utilized their top pitchers Saturday. The Jackrabbits (35-15, 17-0) rode game two starter Shannon Lasey to an easy win. She allowed six hits and struck out seven with no walks. South Dakota's only run came on an errant throw from right field and was unearned.

South Dakota and North Dakota met on the opening day of Summit League play back in late March in a unique series in which game one was played in Omaha and game two was held the next day at a high school field in North Sioux City, South Dakota, due to weather. The Coyotes won game one 3-0 and took game two 9-1 in six innings.
