VERMILLION, S.D—Senior goalkeeper
Caroline Lewis had eight saves to stop the Southern Utah offense from scoring, resulting in a 0-0 tie Saturday night at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
The match was off to a quick start with the first shot coming from the Thunderbirds' sophomore forward Whitney Gardner in the sixth minute. USD fired back a minute later when
Ashby Johnston, senior forward, took a shot of her own. Johnston took three shots with one on goal in her 62 minutes of play while Gardner went on to have six shots and three shots on goal in her 59 minutes.
Saturday night's contest was a close battle with the Coyotes' taking only one more shot to the Thunderbirds' 16 and Lewis having one more save than Southern Utah's sophomore goalkeeper Julia Ortega.

Sam Luft played 78 minutes and took one shot for the Coyotes. Sophomore midfielder
Brooklyn Bordson had a career high four shots with one shot on goal.
Off the bench for the Coyotes, sophomore forward
Rylee Haldeman gave a boost to USD's offense with three shots and two on goal. The Coyotes held NAIA All-American Mayu Yamamoto to only one shot on the night in her 61 minutes of play.
South Dakota continues play at home on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. against Wyoming.
