17 named to CSC Academic All-District Team

VERMILLION, S.D.—Seventeen Coyotes have been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team. The CSC Academic All-District team recognizes student-athletes for their achievements both in the classroom and on the field.
 
These 17 student-athletes represent South Dakota across three fall sports. The CSC Academic All-District honorees include six women's soccer student-athletes, four volleyball student-athletes, and seven football student-athletes.
 
In order to be named to the all-district team, nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, be a starter or important reserve, participate in at least 50 percent of the team's games, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
 
South Dakota's 17 recipients include:
 
Hattie Giblin | Women's Soccer | Midfield | Sioux Falls, S.D.
 
Giblin boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA while wrapping up an undergraduate degree in kinesiology and sport management. She was named the Summit League Scholar of the Championship this fall, which honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating in the Summit League Tournament.  Giblin was also named to the 2023 Summit League Women's Soccer Academic All-League Team. Giblin played in all 18 games for the Coyotes this fall and totaled nearly 700 minutes on the field.
 
Caroline Lewis | Women's Soccer | Goalkeeper | Adrian, Mich.
 
Lewis carries a perfect 4.0 GPA while working towards a master's degree in accounting. She was named to the Summit League Women's Soccer Academic All-League Team this fall. Lewis is a two-year starter for the Coyotes, tallying 10 shutouts in her four seasons, five of which were this fall. She has made the seventh-most saves in program history (178) and has the eighth-best goals against average in program history (1.56).
 
Maliah Atkins | Women's Soccer | Defender | Roxborough, Colo.
 
Atkins maintains a 3.66 GPA while wrapping up an undergraduate degree in kinesiology and sport management. She is a member of the 2023 Summit League All-Tournament team. Atkins played as a starter in all 17 games she participated in this season. She spent a career-high of 1,378 minutes on the field this fall.
 
Kayla Aymar | Women's Soccer | Midfield | Tea, S.D.
 
Aymar holds a 3.73 GPA while working towards a master's degree in kinesiology and sport management. Last spring, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in the same field. Aymar played in all 18 games for the Coyotes this fall, racking up a career-high 690 minutes on the field.
 
Brooklyn Bordson | Women's Soccer | Midfield | Lino Lakes, Minn.
 
Bordson owns a 3.50 GPA as a pre-business major. She played as a starter in all 18 games for South Dakota this season. Bordson spent a career-high 1,060 minutes on the field this season. She assisted in two goals this fall, also a career-high for the sophomore Coyote.
 
Brooke Kercher-Pratt | Women's Soccer | Midfield | Broomfield, Colo.
 
Kercher-Pratt holds a 3.89 GPA while completing her undergraduate degree in finance. This fall Kercher-Pratt played 17 games for the Coyotes, starting in 15 of them. She more than doubled her career time on the field this season, racking up 1,169 minutes. Kercher-Pratt contributed essential defense on the field for South Dakota this season.
 
Kamryn Farris | Volleyball | Defensive Specialist | Lansing, Kan.
 
Farris boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA majoring in pre-business. She earned her first career weekly honor this fall, being named the TicketSmarter Summit League Volleyball Defensive Peak Performer of the Week in week nine of play. Farris tallied 409 digs this season, 30 of which were in the game against South Dakota State which clinched the Coyotes' their fourth Summit League regular season title. She also finished third in the team in service aces with 32.
 
Madison Harms | Volleyball | Middle Blocker | Sergeant Bluff, Iowa
 
Harms owns a 3.57 GPA while completing her undergraduate degree in biology. She was named the Summit League Player of the Year this fall and earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors and AVCA North All-Region Honorable Mention. Harms earned a spot on the academic all-Summit team for the second time in her career. She broke the Summit League's all-time career blocks record with 663. Harms joined the 1,000 kill-club this fall and is the 11th Coyote to do so.
 
Alaina Wolff | Volleyball | Defensive Specialist | Jackson, Minn.
 
Wolff maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA while working towards a master's degree in communication. She earned a spot on the Academic All-Summit League team for the first time in her career this fall. Wolff played in all 29 matches for the Coyotes this season and totaled 276 digs (2.40 digs/set) and 33 service aces. Wolff helped South Dakota clinch its fourth regular season Summit League title by leading a 5-0 run in the fifth set of the Coyotes' regular season finale against South Dakota State.
 
Mattie Johnson | Volleyball | Outside Hitter | Potter, Neb.
 
Johnson maintains a 3.81 GPA as an accounting major. She makes regular appearances on both the Summit League Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Excellence. Johnson demonstrated her versatility as an athlete this fall, transitioning from an outside hitter to a starting back-row defensive specialist. Johnson appeared in 27 matches this fall and totaled 26 service aces with 163 digs.
 
Clayton Denker | Football | Defensive Back | Bellwood, Neb.
 
Denker boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA as a kinesiology and sport management major. Denker has earned both the Missouri Valley Football Conference Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and Honor Roll for the past three years. He played in all 13 games for the Coyotes this fall, mainly on special teams, and registered five tackles.
 
Brock Mogensen | Football | Linebacker | Farmington, Minn.
 
Mogensen maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA while completing a master's degree in education administration and leadership. He was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year this season. He tallied 113 tackles this fall, which led the conference and ranks 15th nationally. Mogensen racked up 399 career tackles, the fourth most in program history and third most among active FCS players. Throughout his career, Mogensen played in 50 games, started in 48, and ended his career with 40 consecutive starts. He placed 11th in the voting for the Buck Buchanan Award this fall and was named a first-team all-American by four publications.
 
Sam Kohls | Football | Offensive Line | Sioux Falls, S.D.
 
Kohls holds a 3.95 GPA as a sport marketing and media major. He earned Missouri Valley Football Conference Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention honors this fall. Kohls played 12 games this fall, started consecutively in 10 of them. He played left guard for a team that ranked second nationally in fewest tackles-for-loss allowed during the regular season. Kohls is a part of an offense that surpassed 400 yards five times this season.
 
Will Leyland | Football | Kicker | Souderton, Pa.
 
Leyland carries a 3.8 GPA in operational analytics. He earned Missouri Valley Football Conference Scholar-Athlete Second Team honors and was a finalist for the Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award. Leyland was the only FCS kicker who didn't miss a kick all season. He landed at the top of the NCAA's field goal percentage rankings with a perfect 13-for-13 performance. Leyland also made all 37 extra points he attempted this season.
 
Jack Martens | Football | Wide Receiver | Cumberland, Wis.
 
Martens holds a 3.63 GPA as he completes an undergraduate degree in finance. Martens played 12 games for the Coyotes, starting 11 of them. He was the Coyotes' third-leading receiver after registering 28 catches for 405 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers include an eight-catch, 81-yard effort against a Missouri team that competed in the SEC championship game.
 
Carter Bell | Football | Wide Receiver | Bettendorf, Iowa
 
Bell garners a perfect 4.0 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in kinesiology and sport management. He earned All-Missouri Valley Football Conference second-team honors as an all-purpose back this season. Bell played and started in all 13 games for the Coyotes. He led the Coyotes with 52 catches for 908 yards and five touchdowns. Bell is the fifth-leading receiver in program history with 2,164 yards.
 
Zach Witte | Football | Tight End | Sioux Falls, S.D.
 
Witte carries a perfect 4.0 GPA as a finance major. He has received the Missouri Valley Football Conference Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and Honor Roll for the past two years. Witte played in all 13 games for South Dakota this season and in 25 games the last three years. He has two collegiate catches for 16 yards.
