MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State handed South Dakota women's tennis a 7-0 dual setback on Sunday afternoon inside Body First Tennis Center.
Â
"Tough match for us today," coach
Brett Barnett said. "Kansas State has a very good strong team this year.
Â
"We played well in spots but you can't beat a good team not playing consistently well."
Â
The Wildcats won all six singles matches in straight sets after taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Â
The Coyotes No. 1 doubles team of
Bea Havlickova and
Sorcha Caves were leading 4-3 when the match was halted after the Wildcats had secured the doubles point.
Â
Havlickova, a junior, fell at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2 while freshman
Amanda de Oliveira suffered a 6-3, 6-4 setback at No. 2 singles.
Â
"Sorcha and Bea were playing great doubles today and were in a good spot to win," said Barnett. "Amanda and Bea played good singles and were right there."
Â
South Dakota fell to 2-2 on the season with a second straight weekend split of matches.
Â
The Coyotes will play two matches next week inside Huether Family Match Pointe as Montana State comes to Sioux Falls on Friday and Drake is the opponent on Sunday. Both matches have a 10 a.m. first serve.
Â
"We know we have some things to work on," added Barnett. "We have to be better all across the board and be able to play at a high standard for a whole match.Â
Â
"We've got a big week at home and we'll be ready to fight and compete."
