Coyotes earn draw with rival Jackrabbits

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota women's soccer team went up the road to Brookings for a Friday night battle with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, coming away with a 1-1 draw.

The Coyotes (3-6-4, 1-1-2) handed the Jackrabbits (10-2-2, 3-0-1) their first tie or loss in conference play with the result Friday. The Coyote goal came in the 29th minute as Brooke Nelson crossed in to Brooke Conway, who headed the ball in for a goal. Ashby Johnston also assisted on the goal.

Conway is up to three goals on the season and Nelson recorded her first assist as a Yote. Johnston now has two assists this year.

The Jacks got on the board first in the 16th minute, but from there it was the Cambell Fischer show defensively. The Jacks fired 22 shots, nine on goal in the match, but Fischer did her job by recording a career-high seven saves.

The Coyotes fired six shots, but four of them were on target. Conway had two shots on goal. Rylee Haldeman had two shots with one shot on target. Brooklyn Bordson had one shot on goal.

The Coyotes are back on their road for next week as they will take on North Dakota and North Dakota State. The Coyotes are in Grand Forks Thursday at 3 p.m. and in Fargo Sunday at 1 p.m.
