VERMILLION, S.D. – After a scoreless first half between South Dakota women's soccer and the Omaha Mavericks on a gusty Thursday evening, Omaha scored the lone goal of the match in the second half resulting in a 1-0 loss for the Coyotes.
Winds gusted over 20 miles per hour in the first half and the Coyotes had the wind at their back, but they couldn't get a shot on goal. At the other end, battling into the wind, Omaha recorded six shots with three on goal.
South Dakota's sophomore goalkeeper
Cambell Fischer made three stops in the opening 45 minutes to keep things tied up. Fischer added one more save to her total in the second half.
In the 69
th minute, Omaha got the deciding goal on the board. After just one shot for the Coyotes in the first half, they turned up the pressure by recording seven shots with two on goal. The Coyotes got a shot past the keeper in the 86
th minute, but after discussion, offside was called on the Coyotes that took the tying goal off the board.

Ashby Johnston gave the Coyotes one last gasp, putting a header just wide of the net in the final minute. The Coyotes had eight shots by eight different players, with
Sam Luft and
Brooklyn Bordson recording shots on goal. The Mavericks outshot the Coyotes 10-8 and had more shots on goal 5-2.
The Coyotes return to First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex to host the Kansas City Roos Sunday for the annual Pink Game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
