VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's basketball fell to Omaha 77-67 on Thursday night inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
South Dakota (17-9, 6-5 Summit) was led by fourth-year junior guard
Kendall Holmes' game-high 21 points. Third-year sophomore forward
Carley Duffney pitched in 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while fourth-year sophomore center
Natalie Mazurek added 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard
Grace Larkins pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds with eight on the offensive glass.
Omaha (6-19, 2-10) picks up its first win over the Coyotes in the last 14 meetings. The Mavericks put four players in double figures led by forward Morgann Gardner's 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Kennedi Grant added 16 points, Grace Cave had 14 and Aaliyah Stanley finished with 11.
South Dakota outrebounded Omaha 48-29. The Coyotes pulled down 20 offensive boards but converted just 13 second-chance points in the game. Omaha scored 19 points off 17 Coyote turnovers.
The Coyotes return to action at 6 p.m. Saturday when they host St. Thomas inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. South Dakota will sport pink uniforms in the team's annual Pink Game for breast cancer awareness.
