Grace Larkins each scored 19 points to lead South Dakota to a 74-60 road win at Kansas City Thursday evening inside the Swinney Center.
South Dakota (19-9, 8-5 Summit) moved to 5-1 on the road in Summit League play.
Demers scored a career high 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and making 6-of-8 from the stripe. She grabbed seven rebounds and stole the ball twice.
Larkins tallied 19 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. She made 7-of-10 from the field.
Third-year sophomore
Carley Duffney recorded her fifth-straight double figure game with 14 points. She had nine of USD's 23 first quarter points as the Coyotes jumped out to an early lead.
Kansas City (11-17, 2-11) was led by Kelby Bannerman's career high night with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Emani Bennett added 13 points, making all three of UMKC's 3-pointers. Dominique Phillips added 10 points off the bench.
South Dakota jumped out to an early lead and extended it to double-digits early in the second quarter.
The Coyotes led 38-27 at the half, but the Roos knocked down an efficient 11-of-13 from the field in the third quarter to tie it up. Phillips capped off a nine-point run by the Roos with a fastbreak layup to initially tie the game at 44.
The two teams entered the final frame tied at 53 all. South Dakota held Kansas City to one field goal in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, going on a 12-2 run to lead 65-55. Demers 'put the nail in the coffin' according to the broadcasters on a made 3-pointer with just over two minutes remaining that extended USD's lead to 72-58. South Dakota finished it off with a 74-60 victory.
South Dakota shot 48.9 percent (23-of-47) from the field and made 23-of-27 (85.2 percent) from the stripe. Kansas City shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) for the game.
The Coyotes' three-game road stretch continues at Oral Roberts on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
