Coyotes push win streak to five

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – South Dakota women's tennis team upped its winning streak to five matches with Monday's 5-2 Summit League victory over St. Thomas indoors at Life Time 98th Street.

"Great effort and win by the ladies on the road today," coach Brett Barnett said. "Road wins are tough to come by and St Thomas is a really good team.

"We had to work for this and played very well in tough moments."

The Coyotes won the doubles point for the fourth time in four Summit League matches as wins came from the No. 2 team of Anna Medvyedyeva and Grace Chadick along with the No. 3 team of the freshmen duo of Amanda de Oliveira and Sorcha Caves.

Medvyedyeva and Chadick won for the 21st time this season, equaling the single season school record during the Division I era, and moved to 3-0 in league play following a 6-1 victory.

The freshmen tandem moved to 6-1 overall and 5-1 at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 victory.

"Doubles was great again," said Barnett. "Two and three played so well and very aggressive and controlled play."

South Dakota received singles victories from the No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 spots in the lineup.

Medvyedyeva, a sophomore, earned her team high 10th win during the dual season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles while de Oliveira was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 2 singles.

Selena Bird, a sophomore, got the clinching point with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles and  Bea Havlickova was a 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) winner at No. 1 singles.

"Anna and Amanda on their courts took over and made a huge difference," said Barnett. "Very solid, professional match by Amanda to get us up 2-0 quick and Anna played smart to get us to three.

"Selena overcame some tough moments but got us the clinch in the end. Proud of Bea for finishing off a good opponent. We're in a great spot in the standings but are not content."
South Dakota (9-8 and 3-1 in Summit League play) continue a busy week with a non-conference match on Thursday at Creighton before traveling to Oral Roberts for a Saturday match.
