Second half goal leads to draw with Chippewas

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A big second half goal for the Coyotes helped tie things up at one, leading to a 1-1 draw at Central Michigan Thursday afternoon.

The Coyote goal, scored by Ashby Johnston (Gr., Corona, Calif.) came in the 53rd minute to tie the match. The Chippewas got a first half goal in the 28th minute to lead 1-0 at the half.

In the first half, Sam Luft (So., Castle Pines, Colo.) had two shots on goal for the Coyotes, but Central Michigan was putting the pressure on the USD defense. Margot Mulhern (Fr., Arvada, Colo.) made four stops in eight shots faced in the first half.

In the second half, the Coyotes turned up the pressure themselves, recording six shots, three on goal. The Coyote goal was scored on a rebound from a Kyla Brown (So., Estavale, Calif.) shot that Johnston cleaned up. Brown received the assist on the play.

In total, the Chippewas out-shot the Coyotes 13-8, but only had one more shot on target in the match. Luft totaled three shots, all on goal to lead the Coyote attack. Cambell Fischer played the second half in net, recording a save on the lone shot on goal from Central Michigan.

Next up, the Coyotes return home Sunday to face Portland State at 1 p.m. at the First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex. The match will be streamed on the Summit League Network via Midco Sports Plus.
